Dry Hopped Pale Ale
(Founders Brewing Company)

A nice break from the strong stouts and insanely hopped IPAs that I've been enjoying of late. Founders' Pale Ale should be an easy drinking beer and a nice start to the evening. Cheers!

From the Founders site:

"A testament to Cascade hops in a bottle. This medium-bodied pale ale has a distinctive floral hop aroma and refreshing citrus flavor. You’ll notice a slight malty sweetness with a balanced hop finish. Perfect to enjoy anytime, anywhere."

Here we go...

Pour - nice tangerine color, sort of like early sunset in appearance. Head is about half an inch of white sea foam. Looks good enough to drink!

Aroma - bready, doughy, sweet malt, fresh cut grass and some nice citrusy hops.

Taste - grassy, lemony, biscuity, bready, citrus and some light brown sugar sweetness. Not a huge amount of flavor anywhere but it comes together as a nice easy drinking pale ale.

Overall - solid APA with no major faults, other than the drinker craving more hops. Worth a shot, especially when super fresh.

Would I buy more of it? - not sure. There are a lot better beers from Founders and as a hop fan I might go for something with a little more ooomh, but this one does qualify as a solid session APA.

Note - Did you know? Cascade as a hop varierty was "developed in the USDA breeding program in Oregon and released as a U.S. aroma variety in 1972. Derived from a cross between fuggles and the Russian hop Serebrianker. It is characterized by a dark green elongated cone which contains low amounts of alpha acids. The aroma is of medium strength and very distinct. A pleasant, flowery and spicy, citrus-like. Good for flavor and aroma, but an acceptable bittering hop. Can be used for most any Ales and Lagers. It’s Alpha Acid can be as low as 4% or as high as 7.5%. Most likely the most popular hop in North America." - from Brewers Connection
