First off, it takes a lot of work to put together any book about beer that is simply going to be titled "The Beer Book". That being said, I'd say that Tim Hampson did a great job with the task as he employed some of the best beer writers and figures in the industry to contribute to this encyclopedia of the world's beers, breweries and styles. The book itself is pretty straightforward. Its broken down by international region with examples of beer styles and specific beers from different breweries. I've been using it as a checklist just for the hell of it. Here and there are nice write-ups on specific breweries, how to properly taste/sample a beer, the ingredients used in brewing and the history of certain styles. It even has some pages in the back dedicated to your personal beer review notes. The full color pictures of the beers as well as the very detailed maps are just incredible to look at. Its really a visual treat, however carrying this book as a reference is simply unthinkable since its a hardcover and fairly thick. An excellent coffee table book that is chock full of information about the beers and breweries of the world as well as a bulk of the information most anyone would want to know about beer. This truly is the Beer Book.
