![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lucky 13 Ale (Lagunitas Brewing Company) Originally brewed as their 13th Anniversary Ale, Lucky 13, a "mondo red", is back by popular demand. Personally I can't get enough of the special releases that Lagunitas puts out, I enjoy them a lot more than their regular offerings, which are quite good don't get me wrong. I just really enjoy their bigger, more unique beers. Lucky 13 pours almost plum-like in color. Its quite beautiful when held to the light. Great head retention with the inch of off-white head that graces this pour. Aroma is rich cake batter, biscuity, bready, caramel/brown sugar and faint hints of orange. Its a very malty smelling beer and it makes me wonder if that is what I am going to get in the flavor. Taste is initially full of the aroma characters, plenty of big malt flavor and caramel sweetness. This however gives way, a little to my surprise, to very nice hoppy, citrusy finish. The hops really do a great job of balancing things out, much more than I expected. Another great Lagunitas release!
